Oh the amount of news and excitement surrounding the release of the Zune HD, has been going off, but how many people actually own a Zune, outside the US, or gadget reviewers? Check the video in the link for a hands on from Engadget
Also, the packaging didn’t come with any indication of pricing, but seeing as these images also fall in step with the leaked Best Buy images suggesting $220/$280 for the 16GB/32GB models, things are lining up pretty nicely for Microsoft’s next instalment of the Personal Music Player.
Today though an interesting development, it seems all flash storage based devices/Zunes have mysteriously vanished from the Zune store. This all bodes well for the release of the new HD unit, which is rumoured for this week, the fifteenth is a tentative date. This though would be the first supposed international release of a Zune, according to Ars Technica,
In April 2009 we learned that the next generation of the Zune would be an international release. Microsoft officially described the Zune HD in May 2009 as a multitouch device with a 16:9 OLED screen, Web browser, HD radio support, and full support for 720p video though its HDMI out port. In June 2009, Redmond confirmed that the device would be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra.
Whatever the case, you cannot generate this sort of online buzz, without strategic leaks, and a real release plan. Microsoft is finally releasing it’s most significant challenge to the iPod. We’ll have to see whether it remains a niche device in PMP terms, or if the fact that it is running on a version of windows CE, attracts a lot of Windows Mobile users to it. I’ll be waiting with baited breath, what about you?
