Admittedly, I’ve been a bit quiet this week, but for good reason, a hardware rumour about my new HTC HD2. Ever since the announcement of the US carrier, T-Mobile HD2 specs something’s been brewing. Purportedly the device on T-Mobile was getting different hardware. A Ram upgrade of 128 Mb. Wow!
It seems though that all the HD2’s are carrying the same hardware, So my Telstra branded, HD2, specs were wrong. Well so I am hoping, here goes the warranty, and here goes some serious phone hacking. I’m not new to flashing ROM’s. but playing with my daily driver like that is a bit daunting. In the end though, I flashed a shipped HTC ROM from Europe, after installing the HSPL update, which meant I could install ROMS willy nilly until I found out if this rumour was founded in fact.
Very simply though I’ve been following the updates, and searching the XDA forum for useful tips on how to verify this rumour. The real clue though, came from this post at PocketNow,
Even though you can see the information on the screen, what’s important to release the hidden RAM, is getting the right Radio version. For other tech under enabled like my self, the radio software included in a WinMo ROM is easily interchangeable. No matter what ROM you flash to the HD2, you will need to flash a specific Radio version to unlock the hidden RAM.
All in all though I now verify this rumour for the Telstra HD2 as well! The Best source to quote for this is XDADevelopers.
